วันอาหารโลก (อังกฤษ: World Food Day) ตรงกับวันที่ 16 ตุลาคมของทุกปี เนื่องในวันก่อตั้งองค์การอาหารและการเกษตรแห่งสหประชาชาติ ในปี ค.ศ. 1945
จุดกำเนิด
รัฐสมาชิกขององค์การอาหารและการเกษตรแห่งสหประชาชาติจัดตั้งวันอาหารโลกขึ้นในการประชุมใหญ่ครั้งที่ 20 ขององค์การเมื่อเดือนพฤศจิกายน ค.ศ. 1979 คณะผู้แทนฮังการี นำโดย ดร. Pál Romány อดีตรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการเกษตรและอาหารของฮังการี เป็นผู้ที่มีบทบาทสำคัญในการประชุมครั้งนั้น และได้เสนอแนวคิดในการเฉลิมฉลองวันอาหารโลกทั่วโลก
นับตั้งแต่วันนั้นเป็นต้นมา ในมากกว่า 150 ประเทศทั่วโลก ได้เพิ่มความตระหนักถึงประเด็นความยากจนและความอดอยาก
คำขวัญ
นับตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1981 เป็นต้นมา ในวันอาหารโลกได้มีการปรับใช้คำขวัญที่แตกต่างกันไปในแต่ละปี เพื่อที่จะกำหนดขอบเขตสำหรับการดำเนินการและการเอาใจใส่ในประเด็นปัญหา ซึ่งสำหรับคำขวัญในปีนี้ องค์การอาหารและการเกษตรแห่งสหประชาชาติกล่าวว่า กิจกรรมในปีนี้จะเป็นการช่วยปูทางไปสู่การประชุมผู้นำโลกเกี่ยวกับความมั่นคงของอาหาร ซึ่งจะจัดขึ้นในเดือนพฤศจิกายน
